(Provocative Title)  Letting Go of Labels

(Central Idea/Unity) Pedagogy of the Oppressed, by Paulo Freire, challenges readers to unsubscribe to the labels society has created for them through re-education and Immersion. (Body/Adequate Development) Freire theorizes that people adhere to either an "oppressed or oppressor" role in society. Often times the divide is caused by what makes someone an "Other" or minority including race, gender, economic class, or the environment they happen to live in.  Freire further establishes that it is up to both the oppressed and the oppressors alike to shed their labels and simply regard themselves as human. The process of reversing dehumanization is driven by simply humanizing those who have been disregarded by society. (Conclusion/Coherence) This task is a right and responsibility, according to Freire, of everyone to engage themselves in education and immersion in order to rid themselves of the labels that essentially hold them back from progress.

I hope to strengthen my argumentative skills and become an overall better critical thinker. Choosing this class was an act of challenging myself as a college freshman.
